1. A glance at Trong Mai Islet

Trong Mai Islet, also known as Fighting Cock Islet, features two small islets elegantly shaped like a rooster and hen, rising approximately 13.9 meters high. It is about 5 kilometers from Tuan Chau Pier in Ha Long City.

Trong Mai Islet was originally a small islet located near Dinh Huong Islet in the southwest of Ha Long Bay, which is featured on the 200,000 VND banknote. Over thousands of years, weathering from limestone, seawater erosion, and wind have shaped the rock formation into two pieces resembling a rooster and hen. Each "chicken" is adorned with patches of greenery growing from the crevices, adding a touch of life to the stone figures.

Recognized as a symbol of Ha Long Bay, it holds cultural significance, appearing on logos for Ha Long beer and in various travel publications, representing the allure of Quang Ninh’s coastal landscape.

2. Legend of Trong Mai Islet

Once upon a time, in the early days of the Vietnamese nation, a fascinating tale unfolded. After Mother Dragon and her brood descended to help the Vietnamese people repel foreign invaders, they remained on Earth. When the dragons did not return, the Jade Emperor decided to send two roosters to awaken them. However, by mistake, he sent a rooster and a hen instead. Enchanted by the picturesque scenery, the pair became so absorbed in each other that they forgot their mission and eventually turned to stone without even realizing it.
